It has been a year now, since Vebu, a company creating nutritional vegan patties that do not imitate meat, swapped cacao powder with Coffee Base in one of their products.
We have interviewed Filip Pejanovic, Co-founder & CEO of Vebu, to give you an insight on how, why and the results of the incorporation of Coffee Base has been for them.
So, tell me Filip, what brought you to using Coffee Base in your product?
"When we decided to switch from cacao powder to Coffee Base, it was a suggestion that aligned perfectly with our goal. This collaboration supports sustainability and we get to support each other as two start-ups emerging in the food industry"
We could not agree more🫸🫷
Filip uses 0.5% of Coffee Base in their brown patties, made with buckwheat and mushrooms, but before they were using cacao powder. So, Filip, how easy was it to swap one ingredient with another?
"It was very easy. We simply replaced cacao powder with Coffee Base without any additional adjustments. The transition was seamless, which made the process quite straightforward". You are probably all wondering what difference did it make to the end result, and here is what Filip shared with us: "The taste, texture, and smell remained the same. The patty has a nice dark color, which is visually appealing and consistent with our original patty. There is no coffee flavor, which was surprising, but it still has some coffee aroma when heated. Because we use a very small amount of Coffee Base, its presence is subtle. Customers know there is Coffee Base in it from the ingredient label, but no one is complaining about it. It’s been well-received". And that is fantastic news! So, besides the sustainability factor, what are the other reasons that bring you to buy Coffee Base instead of cacao powder for your brown patties? "It’s cheaper, and I’m supporting you guys. It’s a win-win situation for both cost-effectiveness and supporting sustainable practices".
Where can we find these delicious patties?
"Coming soon to all Lidl stores in Denmark"
We know that you are soon launching your new website. That is exciting! Can you share with us when the website is going live?
